Plastic Easter Egg Tree Decorating

Spring has Sprung! Spring time is my favorite time of year! The birds chirping, It starts to get warm, the sound of rain. I have never really decorated my old house for Easter, but since we are in the new house, its time to start traditions. Christopher and I decided to hand up some Plastic "Hide and Seek" Easter Eggs we got last year at Kroger for about $4.00-6.00. It comes with 36 eggs. Three sizes. Here is what we did :)

I went to Kroger about a year ago (2011) and got these Hide.N.Seek Eggs for about $4-$6. I'm sure you can still get them.

Grab some thread.
In these Plastic eggs i have two holes. I threaded them from outside in, then inside to the outside. This Made it so they were not constantly spinning.
My beautiful blossoming tree in my front yard was the tree we chose. We hung about 15 of them outside on the tree. Unfortunately you cant see the tree from my dead end  street so our family and visitors are the only ones that will enjoy the decoration. That's all that matters right!

Soft Caramel Topping

Soft Caramel Topping
What you will need is:
1-3 cans of condensed sweetened milk(not evaporated milk)
Peal the label off of the cans. DO NOT OPEN CAN

Place in a large pot un opened with water 3-4 inches above the top of the can. (make sure the cans are fully submerged the entire boiling time, CAN WILL EXPLODE!)
Heat the water to boil for 4 hours.
Take out cans and place on a rack over night or until cool.
 Place in fridge.

Open once completely cooled, mix and place into a jar or container
I love these 12oz Little honey bear containers. When i am all done with the honey i wash them with hot water and grab my funnel to fill them up with other things!
Perfect for Caramel!
 .
This is great with apples, ice cream, Cookies. YOU NAME IT!

Review: I think this is an amazing recipe! It was super easy, i started my two cans around 6pm and took them out of the water around 10pm. I had to add more water around 8pm. I also flipped them up side down one time 1/2 way threw so it was even. At 10pm i took them out and placed them on a rack, went to bed. When i woke up i placed them in the fridge and around noon the next day for lunch i had it with some ice cream and later some cut up apples. My son absolutely loves this! It lasts us a along time! Well worth the $1.00 i got for it at Kroger around Christmas Time.

A bottle of the name brand caramel topping is around $3.78
 Savings: $2.78
In this case, it is better to make, than buy!

UPDATE:
For a harder/darker Carmel boil for longer, leave in pot over night and leave it till morning when water is cold. To make a home made gift, open can, place in canning jars... Set oven at 220 degrees F "oven canning" Bake for 1 hour on a cookie sheet. Wait till canning jar is cool, place on shelf ready to be Gifted!

Make It Yourself: Butter

This is so awesome! I never new how to make butter. It was always something the Amish or big companies did... I was looking through blogs the other day and I stumbled onto this amazing recipe to make your own butter! With this recipe not only do you get butter, but you get buttermilk too! Awesome! Moms with flabby arms,
this is a good time to get your work out in!!  ha-ha, I know I did.
My son didn't really want much to do with it though!

Great new IDEA! Pour your heavy cream into a food processor and blend for 10 minuets until separated!

Click this link for original recipe
Here's how it is made!
I went to my local Meijer. I picked up plastic freezer containers that were $3.00 for 4. Then I got some heavy cream that was $2.89 each.  I bought two.  Total for the experiment was  $8.78, but the containers are a one time buy.

I started with Dean's Heavy Cream.
Fill your empty container 3/4 full.
If you add more than that it wont have room to form.
Make sure it is Cold.

Begin to shake your container. Shake for about 20-25 minutes.
After that time you will have Whipping Cream.

Keep going!! It will get very thick. Then it will start to separate into butter and buttermilk. Pour your buttermilk into different container.  YOU MUST wash your butter with cold water until clear. IT WILL SPOIL QUICKLY IF YOU DON'T!
Save it for the next mornings pancakes.
And you have your butter!
In the end, I think this is a very fun thing to do!!  If you already have a canning jar this makes the project cheaper. It makes a small amount for the time spent shaking, although I do love the work out! I think anyone with kids, who promise to shake the jar, or at least roll it around will make it more fun and keep them busy before lunch!!!!

Enjoy :)

Garlic Butter: add in minced garlic and Mrs. Dash garlic and herb. Great for Making Garlic Bread!
